Blue Heron - The Meaning:
According to North American Native tradition, the Blue Heron brings messages of self-determination and self-reliance. They represent an ability to progress and evolve. The long thin legs of the heron reflect that an individual doesn't need great massive pillars to remain stable, but must be able to stand on one's own.Blue Herons have the innate wisdom of being able to manoeuvre through life and co-create their own circumstances. Blue Herons reflect a need for those with this totem to follow their on unique wisdom and path of self-determination. These individuals know what is best for themselves and need to follow their hearts rather than the promptings of others. Those with the Medicine of the Great Blue Heron may sit until the rest of us loose patience. And, when they follow the promptings of the heart, they are one of the most magnificent when they choose to soar.
This is the message that Blue Heron brings.
Back in my studio I heard a bird screeching!!! Look out the window, saw nothing. Screeching!!!, looked again, nothing, Screeching!!!!!! Ok, Ok, I am getting up, going outside. Saw nothing. Screeching!!!! I looked up and on my roof was a very proud Hawk. We eyed each other, he pranced around, screeched and flew off.
Hawk Symbolism
Hawks are visionaries and messengers
If one is undergoing a difficult passage to know that just over the next hill is freedom and liberation if one keeps going can be a Godsend in supporting the person to keep moving forward! Likewise, if the path is not appropriate, Hawk Medicine can alert one to this and point out a far more favourable path.

Herons are big in Chinese painting. They are one of the more majestic birds. That is a wonderful photo of one. I am looking forward to a dragonfly painting!
